What is Bitcoin – as far as the law is concerned?
Bitcoin has ushered in a new era, it has spawned new models of building trust, and inspired people’s infinite imagination of changes in the basic structure of human society. At the same time, Bitcoin has also brought endless debate about what legal framework should be used to regulate this new financial instrument that is growing in value at the fastest rate in human history. In this mini-lecture, I will first briefly introduce the functional connotation of Bitcoin. Afterwards, I will review the basic principles of traditional securities, commodity and currency regulation. Using this as a basis, further analysis of the extent to which Bitcoin can be integrated into the existing regulatory framework. The legal characteristics of other cryptoassets are also discussed in passing.
